Center for GIS Welcomes Jonathan Dandois, Ph.D.

The Towson University Center for GIS (CGIS) recently welcomed Jonathan Dandois, Ph.D., as a GIS programmer. Jonathan brings a diverse background and experience in GIS, GPS, remote sensing, and geospatial analysis to this role. He previously worked as a post-doctoral research fellow with Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Panama where he developed and led an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV, drone) mapping research project with the goal of capturing tropical forest canopy seasonal change. “Jonathan arrived at CGIS with a strong background in using sophisticated analytical tools to answer questions and solve problems. RESI Welcomes Todd Metcalfe

The Regional Economic Studies Institute at Towson University (RESI) welcomed Todd Metcalfe as senior economist last month. Todd brings a diverse background and experience in economic and policy analysis to his current role. Most recently he worked on an econometric study to calculate the changes in generation due to fuel switching resulting from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI). David Cross Named Assistant Director of Entrepreneurship

Towson University Division of Innovation and Applied Research welcomed David Cross as assistant director, Entrepreneurship, last month. David has 30 years of diverse experience in economic development, technology transfer, commercialization, and entrepreneurship. He spent nearly 10 years in small business development centers in Georgia and Florida before moving to Scotland. In Glasgow, he was responsible for managing the funding and support of the award-winning Hillington Park Innovation Centre. Center for Professional Studies Welcomes New Associate Director

Towson University Center for Professional Studies (CPS) welcomed Vicki Simek as associate director, Continuing Education, last month. Vicki brings many years of experience in higher education to her current role. Most recently she served as executive director, Workforce and Community Education, at Cumberland County College (NJ). She developed and implemented a state-wide initiative to train entry level production technicians and was able to provide funding for most students and jobs for 86% of graduates. Julie Knight is celebrating her first year as the Research Manager for the Division of Innovation and Applied Research’s Regional Economic Studies Institute (RESI). “I like that there is never a dull moment and the workdays, as well as the past year, have flown by,” she said.
