Exercise: The Golden Ticket to Living Well

A few weeks ago, Christine V. Woods from the Wellness Center at Towson University presented a fun class for our Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Towson University members. She was preaching to the choir about the benefits of exercise. Nearly everybody in the room shot their hand up in the air when Christine asked who was already participating in a regular fitness routine. Some are going to the gym and working on equipment such as the elliptical trainer, others are walking every day, doing yoga and Pilates, or have regular tennis games to get them going. Osher Spotlight: John Dahne

For several mornings over the past few weeks, containers of bright red grape tomatoes have appeared next to the cookies and coffee in the hospitality room at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Towson University. These tomatoes are so red that one might think that they were painted that way. Instead they came out of the garden of longtime Osher member and current Coordinating Council chair, John Dahne. The first day he brought them in, he sat them down right next to a box of Dunkin Donuts Munchkins that he had also brought in for the group. If you’re...

Osher Spotlight: Jackie Gratz

This past Wednesday, Jackie Gratz retired after more than a decade as director of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Towson University. The next day, plans were in place to honor Jackie with a reception and concert. But just as Jackie was getting ready to head home on her last day of work, all of the lights went out, the computers went dark, and the air conditioning went silent. Utility workers outside had inadvertently cut the power, leaving the entire block quietly twiddling their thumbs and trying to determine how to survive the rest of the work day without...
